Origins of the Petit Brabançon

Bred alongside the wiry Griffon Bruxellois and Griffon Belge as part of the same small Brussels stable-dog family, the smooth-coated Petit Brabançon emerged from crosses with the Pug, giving it a short, flat coat while retaining the family's distinctive undershot, human-like expression.

The long read
About the breed
Its development alongside the rough-coated Griffon Bruxellois and Griffon Belge as a stable ratter and companion produced a plucky, confident little dog, refined over time into a devoted companion breed rather than a working one.
It makes an affectionate, entertaining companion, often forming an especially strong bond with one person, and does well in smaller homes provided it gets enough attention and exercise, disliking being left alone for long periods.
Today the Petit Brabançon is kept purely as a companion and show dog, enjoying a modest but devoted following worldwide, distinguished from its rough-coated relatives only by coat type.

Point 1
Skull
The Petit Brabançon's skull is judged on balance rather than size — proportionate to the body, with a clean cheek and a stop typical of the breed. Coarseness or an over-refined head are both faulted.
